D72, also known as Dirk Wershofen, entered the techno scene at just 15 but paused his DJ and production career in 1991. In 2020, at the beginning of the global pandemic, he reignited his artistic journey, bringing a fresh approach to electronic music. Over time, he’s developed a distinct style that blends modern electronic elements with classic techno, drawing from genres like Future Rave, Trance, and Techno. Known for his powerful basslines and innovative melodies, D72’s sound has reached audiences around the world, with performances at esteemed venues like Nature One. He has garnered support from industry heavyweights such as Armin Van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Solarstone, Alexander Popov, Paul van Dyk, Dash Berlin, Andy Moor, Sean Tyas, and many others. Backed by top labels such as Armada and Black Hole Recordings, Dirk’s unique sound continues to earn him worldwide recognition and a dedicated fan base.
This year, three of his tracks were featured in young Amber Broos's one-hour set on the Tomorrowland Mainstage in both Belgium and Brazil. Following this, D72 delivered a guest mix on Tomorrowland’s One World Radio, which was met with great success.
D72 shows no sign of slowing down his BPM, keeping his tracks pulsing with the acid tones and hard bass he considers part of his musical DNA! If he ever dialed it back, fans might start to worry, as they’ve come to expect his high-energy, no-holds-barred approach. His style is distinguished by futuristic vocals and unexpected twists that add layers to his tracks, making each one a fresh experience. Black Hole Recordings certainly appreciates his dynamic sound, having supported him with a series of his unique high-octane tracks.
The latest release by D72, “Oblivion”, is no exception—it's unique, modern, and sure to keep listeners engaged. Though named "Oblivion," this track is far from forgettable, slowly building up until it reaches an intense peak. The track combines driving techno elements with melodic synths and a pinch of futuristic female vocals that add to its distinctive character. You can experience all of this in D72's newest release, now available on all streaming platforms!
