We recently released the 19th instalment of In Search of Sunrise in December. This debuted Daniel Wanrooy as one of the mixers.

No stranger to “In Search of Sunrise”, your tracks were first featured in the early 2000s when Tiesto discovered your work. Now, as a creator of the latest ISOS edition with Markus and Ilan, what sets apart your experience then and now?

The biggest difference was that I now was on the other side of the product, as a creator/mixer. First thing I did after I was asked to do the mix was check out how many tracks the average is on a nowadays compilation. The older compilations from the early 2000’s where mixed live and the tracks were overall longer. Back in the days 14 tracks was about the standard, nowadays it’s close to 20. That was a nice challenge to add more tracks without getting the feeling it was rushed. Of course I wanted to produce tracks for it as well, and the intro had to be very special, so I texted JES if she was up for a collab. ISOS always has to have that special vibe. A vibe that you can party on and it should also work when you sit on the beach and relax with it. Those tracks are rare!

In this compilation, there’s a blend of different genre elements, ranging from trance to progressive, and even a touch of techno. How would you describe your contribution in terms of the overall sound?

I would like to describe it as “In Search Of Sunrise”! This is a genre on it’s own. When I heard I could mix it I have asked all my friends from the industry that are on the old In Search Of Sunrise compilations as well. I knew they could help me, as they understand the sound. I wanted the listeners to go back to the golden years of ISOS 4,5,6 or 7. The best compilations ever made if you ask me. I’ve had a lot of great comments, Jonas Steur commented “This compilation feels like one big reunion party!” haha, he got that right!

What was the hardest part for you while creating this mix?

The hardest part was to keep the right balance in the mix, but slowly increase the tempo a bit and yet keep the ISOS vibe alive. It has to be one big flow of positive warm energy.

If we were to ask you about what In Search Of Sunrise represents to you, what would your response be?

I think I’ve described it already in the answers above. A mix of sun, sea, rhythms, positive vibes with a hint of Balearic influences. Timeless music that works on a festival and on the beach.
