Formed in 1997 by brothers Torsten and Jörg Stenzel, YORK is a German electronic music project known for blending Electronica, Chillout, and Club music. They broke through with 1998's "The Awakening" and reached the UK top five in 1999 with their cover of Chris Rea's "On The Beach." Albums Experience (2001) and Peace (2005) solidified their success. In 2012, Islanders brought Caribbean influences, while Traveller and Indigo featured collaborations with Torsten's daughter, Au/Ra. In 2023, they teamed up with ATB and Au/Ra for "Highs & Lows" and joined the Trance Allstars project soon after.
Known for their cosmic vibes, YORK typically delivers an uplifting trance at 138 BPM while continuously exploring newsounds. Their early hit "Reachers of Civilisation," from the debut album Experience, recently received a fresh upgrade, unveiled on In Search Of Sunrise compilation #20. YORK was invited to curate a perfect selection of tracks for this edition, alongside artists like Solarstone, Johan Gielen, Super8 & Tab, ZOYA, and Markus Schulz. "Reachers of Civilisation," as the opening track, sets the tone for the next 1.5 hours, perfectly capturing the essence of the mix.
A blend of Balearic, old-school, and uplifting trance packed with emotion has just been released as a single on Black Hole Recordings. ‘Reachers of Civilisation’ was inspired by a heartbreaking documentary Torsten watched about 19th-century native Filipinos taken to America and displayed like zoo exhibits. The narrator referred to them as "the reachers of civilization," a phrase that deeply moved Torsten and inspired the song's title. “I wanted to create a dark but hopeful song. That’s why it has a melancholic tone during my brother's amazing guitar parts, and then becomes uplifting when the drop kicks in." – Torsten shared
"If you haven't yet experienced the 2001 original, now is the perfect time to dive into the modern twist of 'Reachers of Civilisation.' It's available on all streaming platforms, and you're bound to love it!"
